I DRIVE on Winsford’s roads almost every day and unfortunately have come to the conclusion that speeding is increasing throughout the town.
From previous police and community speed checks, on average about a quarter of motorists exceed the speed limit to some extent and some excessively. Every weekday morning I travel from Over to Wharton and every morning I witness at least three or four drivers flying past me in a 40mph limit doing at least 50mph if not more.
On another occasion I was talking to residents on Beeston Drive, one section of which is a blind bend.
Some motorists were doing well over the 30mph limit around the blind bend and excessively speeding along the rest of the road.
We all have things to do, places to go and time I know is a commodity in short supply these days but the consequences of hitting a pedestrian or seriously injuring someone or even causing the death of someone are so devastating that people need to ask themselves is it worth speeding just to get to your destination on time?
Are those few minutes you save worth a potential injury or death?
Please obey the speed limits, take your time and stay safe.
