MIKE Alcock has warned Middlewich Town not to take it easy this weekend.

The Cheshire League title favourites head to Pilkington on Saturday – a team they have beaten twice already this season.

“Those wins count for nothing now,” said the Witches’ assistant manager.

“We’ve always had close games against them at their place and I’m sure this one will be no different again.

“We can’t afford to take our foot off the gas.”

Their scheduled trip to Billinge on Saturday was postponed due to a frozen pitch, leaving Town still four points clear of Woodley at the top of the table.

Their rivals’ trip to Trafford Reserves was another clash lost to the winter weather.

But a week without action has allowed Alcock to recuperate crocked pair Dave Tasker (thigh) and Louis Bentley (foot), although the latter may need a scan.

“We’re keeping a close eye on him,” said Alcock.

“He’s kicked the bottom of somebody else’s foot, which is very painful, and his foot swells up when he strikes the ball.

“It’s worrying him so we hope to have a clearer picture once he’s seen somebody.”

Defensive lynchpin Shaun Came returns this weekend after a holiday, meaning Alex Lowe can switch to full back. Everybody else is fit.

Alcock hands over to Terry Murphy, another back from a month-long break.

“He phoned me on Saturday and offered to have the game switched to Tenerife,” quipped Alcock.

“It’s good to have him back and I know he’s delighted with the results while he’s been away.

“The lads have been great to be honest, they’ve stuck together and worked really hard to maintain our lead.

“We’ve just got to make that next push now.”
