Middlewich Town 5 Cuddington 1

MIDDLEWICH are on course to reach the knockout stages of the JA Walton Challenge Cup following a five-goal success against Cuddington on Saturday.

A brace apiece from Stuart Tulloch and Matty Jamieson, plus a Michael Evans strike, put the Witches - victors now in five successive league and cup games - top of Group Four with three games to play.

They started brightly at the weekend, taking the lead after 10 minutes when Jamieson skipped around the visitors’ goalkeeper, after evading an offside trap, before tapping into an empty net.

Tulloch increased the hosts’ lead when the Cuddington custodian failed to hold onto a Jamieson effort that rebounded into the forward’s path.

As the men from Norley Road searched for a way back into the game, Middlewich hit them on the break.

Tulloch applied the final touch to a counter-attack with an emphatic finish.

Town’s advantage was worth four goals when Evans lifted cute finish over the goalkeeper before Jamieson claimed a personal double when converting a cross with a first-time attempt.

Nathan Harwood pulled a goal back for the visitors before the final whistle, shooting with power past glove-man Martyn East.
