BUDDING young chefs and sport stars have received a welcome boost following a visit from Tatton MP George Osborne.

In preparation for the launch of Sainsbury’s Active Kids Mr Osborne visited Barnton Community Primary School to present sports and cooking equipment.

The school collected 13,000 vouchers as part of the 2014 scheme, which aims to inspire and enable more active lifestyles, and Mr Osborne, with staff from Sainsbury’s Northwich, delivered the equipment, which ranged from skipping ropes to blenders.

The school has been registered with Active Kids since 2013, and thanks to Sainsbury’s customers collecting vouchers has been able to continue improving sports and cooking equipment every year.

Mr Osborne said: “I know how important it is for children to live a healthy, active lifestyle, so it was great to see how the Sainsbury’s Active Kids scheme has supported the children at Barnton Community Primary School.

“I hope even more schools, groups and clubs in Tatton can sign up to the Active Kids scheme in 2015.”

Head teacher Annette Williams said: “It was such a lovely surprise to receive our order from Mr Osborne.

“The children were over the moon and can’t wait to try out the new equipment. Sainsbury’s customers have been extremely generous in the past, and we look forward to collecting even more Active Kids vouchers this year.”

Active Kids is designed to inspire and enable children to take more exercise and to eat healthily.

Launched in 2005, the voucher collection scheme is open to all nursery, primary and secondary schools, as well as Scouts, Girlguiding and sports clubs in the UK.
