NORTHWICH & DISTRICT SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL by Katrine Lidster

The Northwich Group of Soroptimist International continues to be one of the most active groups in the area. At the recent Trade Fair, they had a stall at the Artisan market in Northwich promoting Fair Trade. They exhibited examples of Fair Trade items, such as coffee, sugar, roses, chocolate and wine, among many other items including a blow-up banana.

The members who manned the stand used the opportunity to distribute leaflets about Fair Trade and Soroptimism to many people who visited the stand to raise awareness of the cause.

At the meeting on March 24, the Club invited Lynda Hill from the Joshua Tree to talk to the members about the charity, including the background and where they are now, especially as they have bought a piece of land on which to build their centre. She described the support system they have in place, and their plans for a holiday home on the land. She also confirmed that they are looking towards setting up a befriending service which they will look to contribute to as a group or as individual members.

The visit by Lynda Hill was followed by a talk about Franconi Hope which is President Louise's personal charity. A donation of £1000 was presented to them.
