CHESHIRE East Council has agreed to work with town chiefs to improve Middlewich’s play spaces.

A spokesman for the authority said: “Parks are important for helping our communities lead happy and healthy lives and we are committed to providing high quality play areas for our children and young people.

“We have already met with Middlewich Town Council and we have agreed to work together to improve parks and play areas across the town.

“Some funds are already available to our partnership but we are also confident that if we use this money intelligently we have an excellent chance of securing additional funding from external grants – so that even more can be achieved.

“The local community are obviously passionate about their and parks and their support and feedback will be vital in the design and implementation of the improvement works.

“Hopefully community groups can become ‘friends’ of these park and together we can make a difference in Middlewich.”

In an email sent to concerned residents, Town Mayor Simon McGrory added: “It is true that Middlewich has been short changed on leisure and play facilities over a large number of years.

“Please be assured that both myself as Town Mayor and Cheshire East ward councillor and Jonathan Williams as town clerk are working hard to establish the opportunities available to us.

“It is important that we keep the pressure on and to that aim I will ask Middlewich Vision to ensure play and recreation areas are afforded the appropriate resource and are included where possible in the current action plan.”
