MIDDLEWICH chiefs have said that a caravan park in Cledford Lane should continue to be used by the gipsy community.
Tom and Anne Marie Herring, of Kinderton Mobile Home Park, are asking the council to remove a planning condition which means that only gipsies can occupy the 17 caravans on the site.
The planning condition has been active since 1994 but Mr and Mrs Herring want the caravans to be available to everyone.
But Clr Keith Bagnall, chairman of Middlewich Town Council’s planning committee, said: “The applicant’s argument is that there’s no demand. I find that difficult to believe.
“In fact I’d say there’s a greater demand for the traveller community than there was in 1994.
“All we would end up with is a housing estate in the middle of nowhere.”
Middlewich Town Council’s planning committee recommended the plans for refusal.
