Ryan Mottram, 17, of Chester Road, hopes to make a film with his brother Mike about local wildlife.

“It’s going to be called Diaries of a Cheshire Wildlife Watcher – in it we’re hoping to be able to film otters on the River Dane,” said Ryan.

“We have found some scat (droppings) nearby which we believe to be from otters so we’re hopeful – we’ve bought a rabbit hutch which will be converted into an artificial otter holt for the film.

“Lately I’ve been tracking the waxwings that are roosting locally and feeding on berries in town.

“I’ve seen them in a few places along St Michael’s Way near the church and also by the Big Lock pub.

“I love the pink and yellow in their plumage and their crest is beautiful, we always listen for them before we see them though – I think they’re still here because of the weather,” he said.

Ryan works for his brother’s internet business Go Wildlife Watching, selling everything from wellies to wildlife hides for nature enthusiasts, they have even had an enquiry from a presenter of the BBC’s Springwatch programme.

“Wildlife cameraman Gordon Buchanan phoned to ask us about a piece of equipment for his programme Lost Land of the Tiger,” said Ryan.

In the future Ryan is hoping to set up his own business selling motion detecting digital cameras, known as camera traps, for taking covert photos and video of wildlife.
