PLANS have been submitted to build 17 houses in Middlewich.

If approved Weaver Vale Housing Trust will build a residential development in Nantwich Road as well as an access road.

The site, which is adjacent to the Shropshire Union Canal, is currently vacant as the former dwelling has been demolished.

A Weaver Vale Housing Trust statement said: “These new homes will be offered for sale to local households on a shared equity basis.

“Marketing will target households who are not able to afford homes at full market price but who aspire to get on to the housing ladder and can afford to purchase a percentage of their new home.”

The proposal is for two three-person houses, eight four-person houses and seven five-person houses.

Nearby residents who have objected to the proposal have raised concerns about the increase in traffic to the area.

Karen Mason, from Nantwich Road, said: “This is a very busy main road and the proposal to put a new access road for 17 dwellings to close to the bridge and traffic lights has not been thought out thoroughly.

“It will tempt even larger lorries than now to perform 3 point turns where they currently reverse back up the main road.

“The road will be at a halt more often and someone will be required to repair any damage caused at their own expense drivers simply drive away as fast as possible and do not leave their details.

“Cheshire East Council should already be aware that there are big issues with this road as high vehicles regularly cause chaos.”

It is a full planning application.

A decision target date is set for December 20.
