FIONA Bruce MP has welcomed the announcement of an increase in secondary school funding.

On Monday, July 17 the government pledged an extra £1.3 billion per year into school budgets which rises the per pupil minimum to £4,800.

East Cheshire schools have been historically underfunded and the government faced pressure after its proposed national funding formula would have seen the borough become the lowest funded authority.

Mrs Bruce said: “The £4,800 per year is exactly the amount put forward to the government following a round-table meeting I organised between head teachers from my constituency and school ministers.

“It’s great to have a conservative government who actually listens and to have campaigned long and hard on something which means so much to people in my constituency.”

Fiona presented a petition signed by 1,600 constituents to the House of Commons in April.
