A HOLMES Chapel store has chosen to donate all profits made from flower sales in the weeks following the Manchester attack to help those affected.

The Co-op petrol station in Middlewich Road, around the corner from Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School where a floral tribute to schoolgirl Nell Jones lies, is expecting to be able to give hundreds of pounds to the national ‘We Stand Together’ fundraiser.

Store manager Duncan Edwards said: “It came about quite suddenly. We have sold quite a lot of flowers, obviously in the aftermath of the attack, and it was upsetting to have six and seven year old children coming in wanting to spend their pocket money on flowers.

“I called head office and someone came out with 12 buckets full of flowers – each with about 10 bouquets in – in his own car to fulfil customer demand.

“He told us that all profits would be put to the fund, supporting the victims. I was overwhelmed and delighted by it – it didn’t sit right to be making money from something like this.

“We are literally around the corner from the school and children come in and buy snacks before and after school and at lunchtime. We have an emotional attachment and it’s been a really upsetting time.

“It feels good to be able to do the right thing, to give something back.”

Duncan said that the initial outpouring of grief had overwhelmed the store and its staff, and that profits from this week’s flower sales would also go towards the fund.
