A MIDDLEWICH Town councillor has been left disappointed after he lost his position on a committee.

Cllr Mike Hunter, had been the town council representative of the Ansa Liaison Group for 12 months, but lost the role due to lack of attendance at the parish council ‘laundry’ meeting on May 8.

Mike had failed to attend the meeting as he was on holiday with his grandchildren, which meant that priority was given to members present who wanted to be part of the committee.

Fellow town councillor Bill Walmsley was the only other council member who expressed an interest in the role and he replaced Cllr Hunter.

Cllr Hunter said: “I put my name down thinking I would retain my position on that committee as a result of the work I’ve done for the town in liaising on the Ansa site.

“There has been a suggestion that I could not be bothered to turn up and quite frankly I am offended that something like that has been suggested.

“Cheshire East Council has once again shown that it has no sympathy for the people who live close to the Ansa waste hub.

“I am the closest person living to that site and I am in fact a near neighbour consultee.

“Now the liaison group is flooded with Middlewich First councillors with which none are near neighbour consultees and I am very disappointed.”

Samantha Moss, Middlewich Town Mayor, said: “Nobody has been voted off the committee because before each laundry meeting we clear the council representatives and choose them from scratch.

“Members who are present take priority for the committee groups, and I think Bill Walmsley will be a welcome addition to the committee as he is interested in the topic so should know whether something is going right or wrong.

“We might be from different parties, but we are all for Middlewich.”

The Ansa Liaison Group is made up of town and borough councillors, Cheshire East Council officers, and residents.
