TECHNICAL details have been given to town councillors on how to set up an air quality group.

At a meeting of Middlewich Town Council on Monday, April 24, environmental officers Tracey Bettaney and Phil Mason gave background information relating to air quality management.

They gave advice on how to start a group to give Middlewich an opportunity to improve air quality in the town.

The presentation was called in response to Cllr Bill Walmsley asking for support in forming an air quality group at a full council meeting in March.

Cllr Walmsley said: “This dispelled many of the myths that surround air quality and gave us clear advice on how the group can help to find solutions to the problem.

“I would like to think that here in Middlewich we can come up with some creative ideas and suggestions that will ultimately improve our air quality., “I must stress that the group is not a campaign group – our aim is to develop solutions and local knowledge will be essential.”

A workshop will soon be arranged to spread the information across the town and to help gather ideas from the public.

A review of CEC’s air quality action plan is due in 2017/18.

It is hoped residents will join the group, particularly those in affected areas.
