A RUNNING group aiming to get people to go from the ‘couch to 5k’ had 35 people take part in its final run.

On Sunday, March 12, members of the Run Middlewich group took part in the Delamere Resolution 5k run following a nine-week programme to get community members to take up regular exercise.

Around 50 runners with varying degrees of experience signed up to the programme in January, with 35 participating in the 5k to celebrate their hard efforts.

Darren Roberts, who led the programme, said: “It was brilliant, from the moment we started in January with some people who could barely run for a minute to now completing the 5k.

“Everybody who took part should be really proud of themselves. There’s a real buzz around the club now.”

Darren admits that there has been recent appetite for more events following the success of Delamere, and that members have begun to sign up for the Colshaw Hall 10k in June.

He said: “We got to a point where we thought we’d never get more people joining, but since the programme it’s changed the atmosphere and made a big difference.”
