A HERITAGE project is asking for volunteers to help them develop local wildlife habitats in Middlewich.
The Saltscape Landscape Partnership, which operates across the Weaver Valley, is looking for volunteers to increase biodiversity along the canal in Middlewich.
The overall aim of the partnership is to help enhance areas for nature and wildlife in the area surrounding the Three Locks.
The Saltscape extends from Frodsham in the north to the salt towns of Northwich, Winsford and Middlewich. Providing a unique mix of wildlife habitats, post-industrial landscapes and rivers and canals.
Volunteers will work to tidy the trees and vegetation in the area, with a particular focus on supporting biodiversity by creating wildlife refuges, bug hotels and habitat piles.
This will encourage birds, insects, mammals and invertebrates to populate the area.
Saul Burton, Saltscape project officer, said: “It’s well known and loved as a beauty spot.
“But these improvements to the landscape, natural environment and the town’s historical assets really will develop the potential of the site for Middlewich people.”
Saltscape is a partnership funded by the National Lottery’s Heritage Lottery Fund to protect, enhance, restore and celebrate the salt landscape of the Weaver Valley.
Volunteers from partners, Canal and Rivers Trust and Middlewich Town Council will also be working on the site.
Anyone interested should ring Saltscape on 01606 723 160 for Saul or Fiona or email info@saltscape.co.uk.
