HOUSEHOLD green waste collection for east Cheshire residents will be suspended during the winter period due to a drop in demand over the festive season.

Bin collections and recycling dates will also be affected - but not suspended - for those who have collections on Monday or Tuesday.

The garden waste service, carried out by Cheshire East Council, will be suspended from the week beginning Sunday, December 4, and will restart week beginning Sunday, February 12.

Garden waste is collected fortnightly, so residents are advised to check the council website for details of their last collection of 2016 and first of 2017.

During the shutdown, residents can take their garden waste to any of Cheshire East Council’s household waste recycling centres. The centres are open all year round, seven days a week, except for Christmas Day.

Councillor Don Stockton, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “It makes sense to suspend the garden waste service over the winter months as we know that demand is low at this time of year.

“Anyone who has garden waste to dispose of over the festive season can of course visit any of the household waste recycling centres across east Cheshire.”

For bin and recycling collections which fall on Boxing Day, December 27, or January 2, there will be a sticker applied to each bin from the start of December with more information.

Waste and recycling collections will otherwise run as normal from Tuesday, January 3.
