PUPILS at a Middlewich primary school were evacuated this morning after an electrical fire broke out.

Two fire engines, one from Middlewich and one from Winsford, attended Cledford Primary School in George VI Avenue, Middlewich at around 11.15am on Tuesday.

Upon arrival, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service firefighters found that the ‘small’ fire, which originated in the school’s electrical switchroom, was already out.

The school had been evacuated as a precaution, and the electricity supply was isolated before firefighters used a high pressure fan to clear the smoke.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is being carried out.

Pupils were celebrating 100 years since the birth of children’s author Roald Dahl, with a group visiting each year group to deliver dance workshops based on the books on Monday and Tuesday.

Cledford Primary School will reportedly remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday 14, after children were sent home this afternoon.

School staff were unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
