LABOUR candidate Jonathan Parry has been elected a Middlewich town councillor for the Cledford ward, beating Paul Edwards of Middlewich First in a by-election.
Mr Parry won 929 votes, a 74.5 per cent share of the vote, to Mr Edwards' 316 in Thursday's poll.
He will now take up the twelfth seat on Middlewich Town Council, made vacant by the removal of Ukip's Alan Brookes earlier this year.
The council is now made up of seven Middlewich First representatives, four Labour members and one independent councillor.
The turnout for Thursday's vote was 21.7 per cent.
