THE polls are open for today's Cledford ward by-election, where residents will vote for either Paul Edwards (Middlewich First) or Jonathan Parry (Labour) to become their new town councillor.
Polling stations, at St Mary's parish hall in New King Street and Middlewich Methodist Church in Booth Lane, opened at 7am and will remain open until 10pm.
Scheduled overnight roadworks in Booth Lane, due to start at 7.30pm, have been postponed until 10pm to enable voters to get in before the deadline.

The vacant seat came about after Ukip's Alan Brookes was removed from the council due to poor attendance.
At last May's elections, six councillors ran unopposed for the Cledford ward, meaning residents did not vote.
