ALL lanes have reopened following a major incident on the M6, which brought junction 18 to a standstill and saw traffic build up through Middlewich.

A lorry carrying frozen vegetables overturned near junction 17 at Sandbach in the early hours of this morning, leaving one male casualty trapped inside the cab.

Firefighters removed the window of the cab and released the man, who was handed into the care of paramedics.

Fire crews also worked to stop a large fuel leak from the lorry, and attended the scene for more than an hour.

All lanes were closed for the early hours of the morning, with one reopening in time for Thursday morning rush hour.

Drivers travelling to work were advised to find alternative routes.

During rush hour, with traffic already stretching back to Knutsford at junction 19, another vehicle broke down in the queues.

Traffic remained slow and heavy throughout the morning, with all lanes reopening through the roadworks shortly before 9.30am.
