A NEGLECTED roundabout that marks an entrance to Middlewich could be in line for a facelift thanks to the efforts of a town councillor.

A project to install a piece of art on Centurion Way roundabout was launched in 2008, but changes to local government structure meant funding dried up and the project slipped through the cracks.

The weed-ridden roundabout, a gateway to the Pennymoor Drive estate, could now receive a much needed makeover after Middlewich First town councillor Samantha Moss held positive discussions with Ansa.

After a lengthy correspondence with council agencies, Cllr Moss met with Stuart Barber, an officer at Cheshire East Council’s arms-length environmental services provider Ansa.

Cllr Moss, Middlewich Town Council deputy mayor, said: “We are going to hand-mow the roundabout because it’s covered in weeds and that need to be looked after first.

“We are going to look at putting bedding in for the winter season then we will go to the Middlewich Town Council heritage team to see if they have something to put in the middle of the roundabout.

“We want something from the salt days, or a small structure to represent the town – a piece of Middlewich history.

“There are lots of neglected little spots in our town and I hope that by improving them one at a time big changes will follow.”

Although this project will roll on into next year, Cllr Moss has already eyed up a spot in Warmingham Lane as her next project.
