PUPILS at Wimboldsley Primary School are celebrating an Olympic victory, after walking the distance from the Nantwich Road school to this year’s host city Rio de Janeiro.
For the past 11 weeks, each class has been walking or running laps of a track measuring one tenth of a mile.
Some children have clocked up several miles a day, rain or shine, towards their individual target of 50 miles each and the huge school target of 5,800 miles.
The children have gathered sponsors along the way, and parents have also been taking part in pre-school sessions to add their miles to the total.
Head teacher Mark Allen said: “I am incredibly proud of the determination and perseverance of all the children who have made it their mission to achieve their goal, even completing laps during playtime!”
Last week, the school finally reached its target with just more than a month to go until the torch is lit for the Olympic Games in Brazil.
