SCRAPPED bus services in Middlewich and Winsford may have a chance of being reintroduced as Middlewich councillor, Mike Parsons, claims to have scheduled a meeting with the head of the bus operator.

GHA Coaches axed three services, the X20, X22 and X81, on Saturday, December 19, sparking anger among residents with many claiming the services were well used.

Cllr Parsons is now hopeful that the services will return after arranging to meet with general manager of GHA Coaches, Stephen Bryce.

Cllr Parsons, who is a ward member for Middlewich at Cheshire East Council, said: “I have spoken to Stephen Bryce at GHA Coaches and we’ve arranged to sit down and have a meeting.

“Hopefully we can stop arguing in public and sort something out, whether we will be able to or not I don’t know but I’ll try my best.

The Middlewich councillor wrote to head of public transport services at Cheshire East Council, Andrew Ross, in December, asking for the council to step in a secure the services.

There has been no response from Mr Ross but an announcement was made by Cheshire East Council last week, stating the council had stepped in to save a service which runs from Crewe to Nantwich via Shavington.

The Shavington service had been reduced to term time only by GHA Coaches and the council decided to provide the funds for it to return to a full service.

Cllr Parsons added: “I haven’t heard anything back from Andrew Ross at Cheshire East Council as of yet, but we do need to get Cheshire East Council to help and I will be working on that.

“The council has agreed to help the Shavington service but the difference is that is a regular service and the ones we have lost in Middlewich are just once-a-day, but they were well used.”
