RESIDENTS of Warmingham Lane in Middlewich have expressed concern over a ‘swinging lamp post’ which is held together by tape.

Jonathan Parry, who lives in Warmingham Lane, reported a damaged lamp post on his street to Cheshire East Council and is now concerned that the lamp post has been left for weeks with the lamp held on by tape.

Jonathan said: “This lamp post was damaged and reported to CEC as a safety hazard. They then sent out a team to repair it who actually repaired it with gaffer tape.

“When it is windy, the top of the lamp post moves quite a bit and the light goes on and off, plus you can sometimes hear an electrical crackling noise.

“This is a major safety hazard. It is extremely close to housing and a footpath. I certainly would avoid walking underneath it.”

A council spokesman said: “We are aware that this particular street lamp needs repair. We are waiting for parts and will be attending to it at the first opportunity.”

Despite the borough council assuring residents that the lamp post will be repaired, town councillor David Williams, who lives on Warmingham Lane, is concerned that the ‘hazardous’ lamp is not taking priority.

Cllr Williams said: “I’ve been contacting Cheshire East Council to get it fixed but I’m getting nowhere with them really.

“As I understand it the council is going through a programme where they are replacing street lamps with LED’s and they’re obviously doing it in an order, but I thought if a street lamp is need of repair they should come and fix that first.”
