CAMPAIGNERS calling for the reopening of the Middlewich Railway Station were delighted last week when the campaign received an unexpected boost.

Virgin trains were forced to use the Northwich to Sandbach line, which runs through Middlewich, last week due to engineering on the west coast mainline.

Campaigners were buoyed by the ‘Middlewich line’ coming to the rescue, saying it proves that the track is suitable, despite common belief.

Cllr Samantha Moss, who is a member of Middlewich Town Council and a campaigner with the Middlewich Rail Campaign, said: “We had another boost this past weekend with the Virgin west coast mainline trains using our line due to engineering works on theirs.

“This may appear to be nothing much but many people believe that our track is not suitable for a passenger service any more it proved quite the opposite.”

Anyone who wants to join the campaign group should one of its members via the Facebook page ‘MRLC Community Group’, or contact Cllr Moss at the town hall.

Members of the public are also invited to attend the next meeting at the Boars Head on Tuesday, September 29, at 8pm.
