A NEW care home for adults with learning disabilities has been opened in Middlewich and MP Fiona Bruce paid a visit to celebrate National Carers Week.

Fiona visited the new care home Cledford House on Cledford Lane during the annual awareness week, which runs from Monday, June 8 to Sunday, June 14, and said she was ‘extremely impressed’ with the accommodation.

Fiona said: “I was extremely impressed with the quality of the accommodation offered at Cledford House which is clearly the result of a huge amount of thoughtful planning and hard work.

“I was pleased to be able to visit Cledford House as part of Carer’s Week because it is a place embodying the spirit of a ‘Carer Friendly Community.’”

Cledford House is Cheshire’s newest home, after it was officially opened at the beginning of the month by town mayor Cllr Ken Kingston, and is now offering residential and respite provision to adults with learning disabilities.

Joanne Ingram, Cledford House manager, said: “This is a place where each resident will be encouraged to participate in all their care plans and decisions relating to their lives. We will strive for the best and happiest outcome for every person that is with us - whether for a day, or on a long term basis. This will be a happy home with an extended family atmosphere sought at all times”

The theme of this year’s National Carers Week was Carer Friendly Communities which are communities that are aware of the part played by unpaid carers and encourage individuals, businesses and public services to make life better for carers.

One in eight people are likely to be a carer and every day 6,000 people take on new caring responsibilities and the aim of Carers Week is to raise awareness of these unpaid, invaluable carers.
