FIONA Bruce held her seat in the Congleton Constituency in the 2015 General Election with a landslide victory and promised to fight for the Middlewich Bypass.

Mrs Bruce was elected Member of Parliament for Congleton with a majority of 16,773, an increase of 9,710 and described representing Middlewich as the ‘best job in the world’.

She said: “I am going to carry on being a strong voice for Middlewich fighting to ensure that that bypass is built, that we improve the town wharf, that we get fountain field ensured, that we sort out the congestion in the town and the safety of the roads and streets like Lewin Street and I won’t stop until these things happen.

“And I’m going to work with the other representatives of Middlewich to make sure they do. It’s a tremendous privilege to be elected once again to be Member of Parliament for Middlewich; the best job in the world for me.

“Thank you for humbling me with your votes and I am thrilled to have this privilege again of being your member of parliament, thank you so much.”

All other candidates enjoyed an increase in their percentage of votes on the 2010 election at the expense of Liberal Democrat candidate Peter Hirst, who went from 16, 187 votes in 2010 to just 4,623.

However, the re-elected Congleton MP said it is the issue of the economy that brought about the victory.

Mrs Bruce added: “We all fought a strong campaign, we had three sets of hustings in which we debated many issues, but overall the issue of the economy, I believe is what has given the conservatives the victory in this election not just here but across the country.

“Because people l can see what the conservative party has done for jobs, 1,000 new jobs a day and that’s what we need to carry on doing.”
