A MAN from Middlewich was given a two year prison sentence, suspended for two years, after being convicted of Cannabis cultivation.

William Sharkey, 51, from Whitley Close, Middlewich, was convicted at Chester Crown Court on April 10 for production of Class B drugs and supplying Class B drugs.

Sharkey was initially arrested in July 2014 after officers found 32 cannabis plants growing at a King Street industrial unit in Middlewich.

Sgt Mike Beamish, from the Middlewich Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "This is an excellent result which has been achieved as a result of working and listening to the local community.

"A lot of the work carried out tackling drugs and drug crime is done without the public knowing, but while utilising their information. The community only find out what has happened when the arrests and seizures are made.

"I would like to encourage anyone who has any information to help tackle drugs or any crime in Middlewich to contact Cheshire Police on 101."

Information can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
