MIDDLEWICH Town Crier Devlin Hobson will be promoting the town to countries all over the world when he competes at the International Town Crier Competition in Bermuda.
The competition in the tropical island, on Wednesday, April 22, and run until Friday, April 24, with Devlin competing against 24 other town criers.
Devlin took the job as town crier of Middlewich in September last year more than 100 years after his predecessor, and now Devlin could put Middlewich on the map by becoming the first Brit to walk away with the Bermuda International Town Crier title.
Participants will compete in crying competitions island-wide over the three days all vying to be crowned International Town Crier champion.
The judging criteria include appearance, bearing and confidence, clarity, content, dictation, inflection and sustained volume.
Devlin said: “It is a good opportunity to compete internationally and to put Middlewich on the map.
“I think I have just as good a chance as anybody. I’m a relatively new town crier compared to others who have been doing it for years but I’ve already won quite a few crowns and I’d say I’ve done extremely well.
“I will be crying the Middlewich cry to promote Middlewich and tell people what Middlewich is, who we are and what we do.”
