THE new accommodation for homeless and vulnerable young people in Middlewich is appealing for help to equip their flats.

Mococo House, on Wheelock Street, was converted from a café to living accommodation and is now a registered charity after the official opening on Friday, February 27.

The accommodation holds nine flats, but only one is currently complete and being let, with the Mococo staff appealing for any help in providing essential appliances for the eight incomplete flats.

Jet Davidson, Mococo House centre manager, said: “We’d just like to ask people to donate as much has they can because there’s still a lot of support needed.

“Support from the general public would be so appreciated and anybody is more than welcome to come and have a look around before they donate.”

The list of equipment needed includes kettles, fridges, microwaves, toasters, kitchen bins, washing baskets, pots and pans, oven trays, washing up bowls, irons and iron boards, towel rails and toilet roll holders.

The idea behind the project is to empower young adults by offering them the opportunity to move towards independent living within a safe, secure, loving environment that understands their unique needs and backgrounds.

Mococo House will seek to help improve their self esteem, enhance their job opportunities, and provide a secure home base from which to flourish in life.

David Moore, pastor of the Middlewich Community Church, said at the opening: “Mococo House is the fulfilment of a long held dream to provide supported housing for vulnerable young people from the Cheshire area.

“Our state-of-the-art facility will offer 24-hour support and care helping young adults prepare for full independence.”
