CHESHIRE East Council leader Michael Jones made a shock announcement that he has removed his name from the Leader of the Year nominations.
The leader of Cheshire East Council was put up for nomination last month but made the announcement to withdraw his name at the council meeting in Sandbach on Thursday, February 26, moments before the council voted on a motion of no confidence in the leader.
Cllr Jones said at the meeting: “Politics is politics and I have come under attack from a lot of people but have also been nominated for the leader of the year award.
“I am proud to have been nominated and I am proud to be the leader of Cheshire East Council.
“I withdraw my name from the nominations because it should not be about me, it should be about the council.
“I am grateful to whoever nominated me but I am withdrawing my name.”
