A SAFETY-SAVVY woman from Middlewich has been rewarded by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service as a winner of the winter driving competition.

The competition was run in conjunction with the Fire and Rescue Service’s safety campaign and Diane Blackwell, who lives on Lime Close in Middlewich was one of five winners of the competition.

Entrants were asked to say what the legal tyre depth requirement is and those who gave the correct answer of 1.6mm were entered into a draw to win a winter driving pack.

The Service's road safety officer, Peter Shields, congratulated the winners, saying: "I was really pleased to see how many entries we received as it means that people are reading and taking notice of our safety messages.

"We really want to get the message across to road users that one death on our roads is too many, so it is so important to be prepared for winter driving in case bad weather strikes.

“Safer driving in wintery conditions is an important part of our road safety campaigning and our drive to cut road traffic collisions and incidents."

Diane was one of five winners, with others from Wheelock, Congleton, Sandbach and Warrington also being drawn out.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has issued some advice to residents to stay safe on the roads during the winter months.

The advice given includes carrying spare light bulbs in the car, staying out of the red with fuel, making sure wash fluid and oil is topped up, checking tyre and brake condition, and keeping an emergency kit in your car.
