A MOTHER who shaved off her long locks in memory of her son has spoke of her delight at the amount of support she has received from the community.

Debbie Hobday, 50, along with her daughter Kayleigh Unsworth, 26, held a fundraising event at Middlewich Football Club on Sunday, August 31.

The pair shaved off their hair to raise money for The Christie, who cared for their son and brother Peter Falconbridge before he died of cancer in 2000.

After setting a target of £1,000 for the fundraising, Debbie was amazed to learn that the money collected amounted to more than £2,000.

Debbie said: “It went absolutely fantastically and I just want to thank everybody that helped out and sponsored us, and Steve for letting us use the football club.”

“It was a fantastic turnout and a really emotional day for everyone and to raise more than double our target is incredible.”

As well as raising money for The Christie, Debbie’s hair will go towards making real hair wigs at The Little Princess Trust, for children going through chemotherapy.

Debbie added: “It’s really nice to know that we’ve certainly helped a little towards making a child happy with the wigs and also helped out the Christie.”

Debbie and Kayleigh are still taking donations for their fundraising. To donate visit justgiving.com/brave-the-shave
