Residents of all ages were out in force for the first ever Middlewich Makers Market.

More than 60 stalls were on show along Wheelock Street on Saturday, after the Makers Market was brought in to replace the town's monthly Artisan Market.

Vicky Jackson worked with the Middlewich Town Council to ensure Middlewich keeps a monthly market after the Artisan Market was dissolved.

Vicky said: “I think it’s so important for the community to have this market once a month and get people coming to the town and give local businesses a chance to showcase themselves.

“It has gone really well, I think it’s the best we've ever had, the weather was brilliant and I just love to see how happy it makes people.”

The market was also given a Mother’s Day twist, with stallholders selling produce ideal for Mothering Sunday gifts.

The event proved to be a hit with all ages with face painters, portrait artists and balloon modelers entertaining the little ones while ‘Cotton Hot Town Club’ provided the best swing tunes from the 1930’s to the 1950’s.

The town’s infamous folk music was also on display with Cheshire Folk playing live.

Bernice Walmsley, Middlewich Town Mayor, said: “I think it’s gone better than we expected, wherever you look there are people with bagfuls in their hands.

“Vicky has done a great job to work with the council to keep this going and I hope we see it continue to grow.”

Local producers were offered a stall at the Makers Market for a reduced fee to showcase as much of the town's finest food, drink, art design and craft.

Emma Russell, a stallholder with Sugar 245, said: “It’s got more of a carnival feel about it this month with the bouncy castle and the live music, which you don’t usually get from markets.

“I think it has been so popular because it had such a big build up with it being the first Middlewich Makers Market but we need to make sure it is kept up this way and the next one is just the same.”
