POLICE successfully apprehended a man who was carrying a BB gun and a knife in Hayhurst Avenue yesterday.
The 25-year-old man was threatening to harm himself and had a wound to his arm.
Police said: "At 3.37pm on Monday 3 March 2014, police received a report of concern for safety of a 25-year-old man.
"The man was thought to have a small firearm in his possession and was intending to harm himself.
"Police located the man in Hayhurst Avenue with a wound to his arm. Officers at the scene carried out first aid. A knife and BB gun were seized."
The man was detained under the mental health act and taken to Macclesfield Hospital.
Sam Graham, of Hayhurst Avenue, posted on twitter: “Armed police outside me house, got some bloke on the floor... just seen guns being pointed then a lad holding his hands up.”
