WINSFORD’S MP has weighed into the debate over proposed double yellow lines that a long-standing takeaway says will drive it out of business.

Eddisbury constituency member, Stephen O'Brien, met with John Finney at his Foodcraft fish and chips shop in High Street on Friday February 28.

He joined town mayor clr Mike Kennedy as the latest high profile commentator to back calls for the borough council to abandon plans to paint yellow lines along the A54 outside High Street primary school.

Mr O’Brien said: “I am strongly persuaded, taking all safety issues into account, particularly for Winsford High St Primary School’s children as well as residents and the renowned Foodcraft business, that double yellow lines at this point on Winsford High Street would be inappropriate and counter-productive.

“I hope that CWAC will recommend a sensible outcome that maintains the parking bays along the road as the safest and most viable option.”

Mr O’Brien was shown a copy of the 1,800 name petition that Foodcraft is presenting to Cheshire West and Chester.

CWAC propose to paint ban parking along a 140 metre stretch of the A54, linking existing double yellow lines that stop either end of High Street primary.

The council argue the measures will improve traffic flow along the dual carriageway and improve safety, by preventing the need for cars to move from the nearside lane to avoid parked cars on the kerb.
