THE Middlewich and district Concerts Society is holding their second concert of the year at the end of the month.

The society will be welcoming David Cowdy on the oboe to the stage accompanied by David Jones on the piano.

Mr Cowdy, who studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, has performed in many orchestras and ensembles in the UK and abroad.

In addition, Mr Jones accompanied the clarinettist William Stafford in concerts throughout 2011 and regularly accompanies students from the junior Royal Northern College of Music.

The programme comprises of sonatas by Bach, Francis Poulenc and Edmund Rubbra, and other pieces by Gabriel Fauré, Gabriel Grovlez, Emmanuel Chabrier, Madeleine Dring and Judith Bingham.

David Hawkes, the Middlewich and district Concerts Society publicity officer, said: “With the exception of the Bach sonata, all the music is relatively modern and is French or British. This promises to be an absorbing concert, with lots of contrasting styles.”

The concert will be held in the Drama Studio of Middlewich High School on Saturday February 22 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £8.50 (concessions) and will be available at the door. For further details please visit madcs.org.uk or contact Roger Evans on 01606 834471.
