CONGRATULATIONS to Northwich Town Council on being nominated for ‘Council of the Year’.

What a shame that some on the Guardian’s social media pages have taken away from the council’s achievements by blaming it for issues it has no control over.

The town council has overseen refurbishments at the paddling pool which drew in thousands of visitors this summer, brought the community together with its annual family fun day and music festival, and has already set a date for its Christmas extravaganza.

Yet some would rather incorrectly criticise it for failing to singlehandedly fill Barons Quay, or for forcing The Hut Group to leave Rudheath – yes Rudheath, not Northwich – for pastures new.

In my view, the council has worked well with organisations such as Northwich BID to breathe life into the town.

Both of the issues mentioned above fall under Cheshire West and Chester Council’s remit and are nothing to do with the town council.

Anyone willing to open their eyes can easily find a list of responsibilities on the Government’s website.
