SUCCESSES keep on coming for Winnington Park Hockey Club.

Continuing the Winnington 'winning' mentality of last season, when one team was promoted and two others finished second in their leagues, a mixed team has won a tournament in Cambridge.

Fifteen players from the men's and women's teams travelled 170 miles to to take on 13 teams from across Cambridgeshire in the Ely Social Tour Tournament.

They won three and drew two of their five games on the Saturday, taking Park through to the plate competition the following day.

Competing for the place in the cup final, Park then beat two Cambridge South teams and drew against Cambridge City to go through to the semi-finals, where Park met hosts Ely Ninja Turtles.

It went to a tense round of penalty flicks to determine who would play Bury St Edmunds in the final. With four goals to one, Park went through.

The final was a tense game, with many opportunities in the attacking D against Bury.

After a 30-minute match in 24-degree heat, it ended 0-0, leading to another nail-biting round of penalty flicks.

After scoring three, goalkeeper Tim Wylie ensured the win by saving all five of Bury's penalty flicks.
