An elderly woman who died after being hit by a car in Edinburgh has been named by police.

Christina Young, 92, was involved in the collision with a Mercedes GL around 8am on Tuesday in the city’s Southhouse Avenue.

Police say Ms Young, a pedestrian in the incident, was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where she later died.

Inquiries are continuing and police have asked anyone with information to come forward.

Constable Declan Fitzpatrick said: “Our sincerest sympathies are with the woman’s family and friends at this time. Our investigation to establish the full circumstances of the collision are ongoing.

“I would again appeal for members of the public with information, or motorists with relevant dash-cam footage to contact police immediately.”
