Winsford man with cerebral palsy does his bit for Guide Dogs

Joe Baddeley, who has cerebral palsy and autism, organises charity raffles to support causes close to his heart, including one for NHS clinical and support staff during the Covid pandemic in 2021.  

The 25-year-old recently discovered a new cause to support when he saw a TV news story focusing on the charity Guide Dogs, and how they were struggling to get hold of enough puppies to train up.

The former Hebden Green and Dee Banks pupil has always been a great animal lover, with a special fondness for dogs, so he decided to do something about it.

Joe asked friends and neighbours to donate prizes, as well as buying some with his own money, and sold raffle tickets to friends, neighbours, and colleagues at Mid Cheshire Food Bank, where he volunteers.

In total, he managed to raise and impressive £174, which he’ll soon be donating in person to staff and volunteers at the charity's regional centre in Atherton, Manchester.  

He said: “I saw a thing on the news about the charity Guide Dogs, and how they have a shortage of puppies to train.

“I thought I’d do a raffle to try and help get them some more dogs.  

“I just decided to do it off my own back.

“I sold the tickets everywhere I could think of, like local shops, and to friends and family.

“I really like fund raising and helping people out when I can. I did a collection to make a hamper for doctors and nurses at Leighton Hospital over Covid.

“I love animals, and I especially like guide dogs. I’ve been in contact with someone at the charity, and I’ve arranged to go down and make the donation in person.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting them.

“I’d also like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated a prize, or bought a ticket.”
