POLICE cordoned off a road in Middlewich this morning after a suspected Second World War bomb was found.
Officers were called at 10am after workmen made the discovery near the Shropshire Union Canal.
A spokesman added: “Officers attended the scene and a cordon was put in place as a precautionary measure.
“The EOD were called to the site and after assessing the device found it was not explosive.
“The cordon was lifted at 12.30pm.”
Following further investigations, officers found the ‘peculiar- shaped’ device was actually a fence post.
