A COMMUNITY garden is appealing for donations after vandals broke in and caused extensive damage over the weekend.

The incident at Grozone Community Garden at Old Dane Nurseries has left hefty repair costs, in order to continue to run outdoor play sessions, education programmes and health and wellbeing projects.

A spokesman said: “We’re really sad to report that over the weekend, unwanted visitors broke into Grozone whilst it was closed, starting a fire and vandalising some of the facilities.

“As well as starting a fire in the yurt the visitors smashed the urinal and sink in the accessible toilets, and damaged the popular Grozone lion.

“This lion had been lovingly created by our volunteers as part of the Pride of Rudheath campaign.

“If you have any information that might help Cheshire Police identify those responsible, please telephone 101 and quote reference number 212884.

“Grozone helps hundreds of people in the local community to make positive connections.”

The community group is also accepting donations to help foot the bill and running costs.
