A FUN-FILLED family cycling event is being held at Blakemere Village on Sunday.

Cudd Cross will give children and adults the chance to ride through muddy fields at the Sandiway activity centre in various cyclocross competitions.

Organiser Lou Roberts, 44, from Cuddington, said: "Mums, dads and kids can all ride. You don't have to be a professional to do it. Anyone can rock up and join in."

"Everyone has so much fun together riding bikes in a muddy mess. There is such a lovely atmosphere."

Lou is running the event with her partner Guy Groves, who is a member of the North West Cyclocross Association, and friends from the Port Sunlight team.

"This is the first time we have run a cyclocross event in this area. It looks like it will be amazing. It is very family orientated and there will be plenty of food and drinks available. There will be a fish and chip van and hot dogs.

"It's a chance for people to watch a few locals and hundreds of others cycling around the front field."

Races start at 10.30am and the last one begins at 2.30pm. Riders must wear helmets.

Spectators can watch free. There is a fee to compete.

Riders can register on the day, Sunday, October 21.

"We're hoping this could become a regular venue," added Lou. "We travel as far as the Lake District to compete. There are lots of different events."

Bucket collections will be made for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), a charity that raises awareness of sudden adult death syndrome (SADS).

Blakemere Village offers a selection of shops, free outdoor adventure play park, falconry, indoor playbarn, restaurant and coffee bar.
