A PRIMARY school took part in a BBC live lesson as part of National Poetry Day on Thursday, October 4.
St Mary’s Catholic Primary School celebrated the occasion with a whole day of poetry themed activities.
Gemma Brinkhurst, English lead at St Mary’s, said: “The day started with an assembly by Rowena from Middlewich Library.
“She spoke to the school about some of her favourite poems she also did a workshop with our year three pupils.”
The pupils also added an element of performance to the occasion.
Across the different year groups children looked at the link between poetry and music, poetry and wellbeing and even acted out poems.
The highlight of the day was the key stage two BBC live lesson which the whole primary school took part in.
Gemma said: ”I had both year five and year six pupils in my class so there was about 70 children in my classroom and the other year groups all took part in the other classrooms.
“I’m the English lead at the school and National Poetry Day has been on my calendar for some time now.
“I googled the event to see what came up and the first result was the BBC live lesson.
“They asked if we wanted to get involved and if they could give the school a shout out on the live lesson as well which the children loved.”
The school also received recognition on twitter for taking part in the event with one of the updates on the day receiving a retweet from the BBC Teach twitter account.
