A MIDDLEWICH town councillor claims his question at a Cheshire East Council meeting was rejected because ‘they did not like the context’.

Cllr Jonathan Parry attended cabinet last Tuesday after submitting an item asking why a £2.4 million fund was given to the Ansa waste transfer site in Cledford Lane despite cuts to adult social care and bus services.

He was told after arriving that the question was rejected and says ‘late submission was no reason for rejection as they did ask if anyone else would like to speak. It was solely down to the context’.

After the meeting Cllr Parry said: “If you want an answer on the day then you have to submit the question three days in advance which is something I didn’t do but I’ve done it like that before and received an answer.

“I also was not told prior to the meeting and it was only when I turned up that Cllr Liz Wardlaw let me know that I would not be allowed to speak.

“Put simply they didn’t like the context of my question and didn’t want to answer it. The reasons given were that it was too late and it was a packed agenda.

“But an excuse like is a smack in the face when they then go to ask the room whether anyone else would like to speak as well.

“The reason I’m going to cabinet and asking these questions is because I’m not getting a reply from the council and it is a subject that matters a lot to myself and other Middlewich residents.

“Next time I just won’t be them prior notice that I’m attending and just put my hand up like every other member of the public.”
