MY congratulations to all those people involved with organising the Christmas tree lights switch-on, which took place at the Bull Ring, Middlewich.
Such events and activities helping to attract people into Middlewich town centre are most welcome.
However, I wonder what the impact of imposing car parking charges on a market town such as Middlewich will have on future events? It is interesting to note that Cheshire East Council supports the Christmas programme, and yet it is the council that intends to levy car parking charges on our town.
The car parking policy seems counter-productive. The Civic Way car park was full on the Friday evening, but I remain concerned as to how many people will want to support such events in future when they are charged car parking, even though they may use the Civic Way car park for less than an hour. I noticed that the National Blood Donor Service was using the Middlewich Civic Hall, adjacent to Civic Way car park.
Is there any special dispensation granted to blood donors using Civic Way car park? I suspect that the council has failed to consider the needs and requirements of such groups.
Blood donors using the car park at Civic Way next year will be charged by the council for doing so – this may deter people from donating. Is this an example of ‘blood money’ for the council?
