Limited memory

I TRY to ignore personal attacks; they tend to show that the writer has run out of ideas, but I will reply to Dominic as he seems to have a limited memory, or is perhaps too young to remember our previous Conservative governments.

I do hold a position of trust, I am a teaching assistant with a degree in history, so I do tend to remember what has gone on before and the following are just some of the things perpetrated by that previous Conservative government:.

I remember a war fought over the Falkland Islands where many British troops lost their lives because an incompetent Foreign Office refused to see the dangers in refusing to talk to the Argentine Government over the sovereignty of said islands.

I remember we had a total exclusion zone inside which we would not allow any foreign shipping, and then we sank the Belgrano, which was not inside the limit and was actually steaming away. (The Belgrano was a cruiser built in 1938 in the USA; it was sunk by a state of the art nuclear submarine.) I remember we bombed the runway at Port Stanley and missed, but due to incompetence again we thought we had destroyed it.

I remember the Sir Galahad with its troops being sitting ducks because incompetent commanders decided to unload her cargo before the men with disastrous consequences. I remember going to war with Iraq in 1991 and then not finishing it off, so it started again 10 years later I remember a stock market crash of epic proportions in 1987 and mass unemployment.

I remember the sell-offs of nationalised companies such as BP, BT, British Gas, British Aerospace, British Steel, the National Bus Company, British Rail, the National Grid and the regional water authorities. It made millions at the time for the Conservative Government, but who is paying now?

We are with our water, gas and electricity bills now paid to foreign companies who charge us what they like, far more than in other European countries.

As for our public transport, well that is now a very expensive joke.

Our coal mines, which could have been a life line for our power needs is gone, as has British Steel to all intents and purposes.

Add to that list former Conservative ministers sent to prison, including a former party chairman and I think you begin to see my point.

The Labour Party has lost its way, but it is still the better option than a party led by a man who has already reneged on one promise, a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. And finally let us not forget who took us into the European Union they now decry – you’ve got it, the Tories!

I am not, and never will be a member of any other party than the Labour Party and I am proud of that fact. I am proud of the health service, our universal education system, our social services and our democracy, all hard won victories for the poor and downtrodden in society from the wealthy and privileged classes. If you want to turn the clocks back feel free to vote Monster Raving Looney Party, sorry, Conservative Party at the next election but don’t be surprised when you lose your job, your public services, or both.

I remember Labour from 1974 to 1979 who created a economic mess that affected a generation.
I remember Labour government who's dogma and lack of understanding of the banking system and economics causing a economic mess from 2007 throught 2011 (if we are lucky).

I remember a Labour government who told us the priority was Education, Education, Education. Yet in 2007 the UK slipped to 14th

I remember an unemployement rate of 1 in 10 in 1979 under the Conservatives. Today the unemployment rate is 2 in 10 thanks to Labour.

I remember the Falklands war in 1982 and 258 dead in three weeks a swift victory 8000 miles away from home. I remember being huddled down in a trench which the Argies bombed our positions.
I remember a Labour governement who lied to the British people about WMD and the true threat Iraq posed. The 5000 dead service men who fought for a lie. I remember Dr David Kelly and honest man brought before an aggressive parlimentary process because he spoke the truth and died because of his honesty.

I remember in 1977 the rise of facism under an incompetent Labour governement. I remember in 2008 the rise of facism under and incompetent Labour governement.

I remember because I don't have a selective memory. Labour have a history of poor economic management. Setting low standards for education and health care, poor border control, rise of extreamism, lying. Centralising the management and reducing freedom of expression.
