Move to Warrington and your service will get worse

I would like to respond to Peter Hirst’s letter (Guardian, January 21), about the closure of the Mail Centre in Crewe.

Royal Mail cannot guarantee quality of service because the mail, instead of stopping at Crewe, will have a further 45 minutes travel time to Warrington and the same coming back to the CW postcode area.

This means that businesses and the public will receive a much poorer service from the time the transfer take place.

I fully agree with Dr Hirst that there will be an adverse affect through increased congestion on motorways because the people who decide to go to Warrington from Crewe will have to use the motorway, because there is no public transport available for people to get to work on time.

It was not the national government that took this decision, it was Royal Mail who in their infinite wisdom think they can treat the public with the same disdain as their own staff.

Royal Mail is one of the very few public services left and should remain so.

I do not think it is in the best interests of the public for Royal Mail to become privatised.

TNT has shown an interest in becoming a partner with 33 per cent of the business.

An example of their postal delivery service in Holland is two or at best three deliveries a week and not at a universal price.

Do not be fooled by Peter Mandelson to keep the postal service public, it must not become privatised.
