Fears of a repeat invasion in Ealing of poisonous moth larvae can be laid to rest.
Prompted by the pictures in the Times last week of the small black insects in Hanwell, Times readers have inundated us with tales of poisonous insects that hit the borough two years ago when council officers had to don protective suits in Manton Avenue. But officers have declared the Mayfield Gardens insects harmless.
The Browntail moth larva is often found in fruit trees. Its two-three millimetre hairs can cause skin irritation for several weeks and respiratory problems if inhaled.
